Like many of you, we at The Diet Joke are anxiously awaiting the results of Dr. Phil’s 17 Day Diet Challenge which began on January 5th. Okay, so anxious is a little strong. Still, we’re curious to know how the challenge has been progressing. Granted, the whole thing pales in comparison to the Ted Williams saga (on the radio, on the streets, on the Today show, on The Dr. Phil show, on the road to recovery, etc.).
In case you missed it, Dr. Phil, who’s a big fan of Dr. Mike and his new book, The 17 Day Diet, challenged some of his viewers (some of the heavier ones) to commit to the 17 Day Diet Challenge. His team of challengers, Team Dr. Phil, then went on to challenge Team The Doctors from the show The Doctors. Team Dr. Phil and Team The Doctors have yet to challenge the team contestants from the current season of The Biggest Loser, but when it comes to providing us with top-notch entertainment, anything can happen.
Dr. Phil has been hawking The 17 Day Diet since the book came out in November, claiming that, by following the diet, one could lose up to 12 pounds in 17 days. Sounds promising, doesn’t it? Almost too good to be true. In fact, it practically contradicts some advice Dr. Phil gives out on his website.
Question number 3 from Dr. Phil’s Weight Loss FAQ page asks:
What about “magic” diets that promise quick results?
And Dr.Phil’s answer:
Make no mistake — the billion-dollar diet industry tells you what you want to hear. But losing weight is hard work, every minute of every day. How hard are you willing to work? Do it right once, and you’ll reach your goals much quicker than “seven pounds in seven days.”
According to Dr. Phil, seven pounds in seven days–no good. But 12 pounds in 17 days–that’s exciting.
Since nobody here at The Diet Joke is a doctor, we hardly feel qualified to challenge Dr. Phil, Dr. Mike, and all the doctors from The Doctors. Our only question is, why isn’t Dr. Oz in on this?
